Indian Head Massage
Indian head massage is a therapy based on ayurvedic medicine, which works on the principles of complete body healing and relaxation. It was originally taught and practised to promote the growth of long and lustrous hair for women, but it is also recognised to provide a strong sense of emotional, mental and physical wellbeing.
Whilst sitting in a comfortable chair, a range of pressure and massage techniques are used to warm and work tension out of tired muscles. The treatment incorporates massage over the back, neck, shoulders, upper arms, and the head.
As well as stress relief and the freeing of tight or tense muscles, there are numerous health benefits that can be achieved from this treatment. Some of these include:
- Improved circulation
- More effective and freer muscular activity
- Calming the nervous system
- Free knots of tension
- Improve lymphatic flow
- Promote healthy hair growth
- Detoxify they body and allow elimination of accumulated toxins
- Relief from migraines, headaches and sinus problems
- Improved quality of sleep
Oils are often used during the massage for smoother movements as well as their numerous health benefits; however, the use of them is optional. If oils are preferred, upper clothing can be removed and a large towel provided to ensure modesty is maintained. You can remain fully clothed if no oils are preferred, but a lightweight t-shirt is recommended if this is the case.
